Turkey's Aegean coast spans from Istanbul in the north to the city limits of Marmaris in the south. The picturesque tiny resorts located along the shoreline, often known as the west coast, were once fishing communities and are now famous tourist destinations. From the location of the famous fight between Greeks and Trojans, according to Homer, to the World Heritage Site of Hierapolis, the Greek and Roman cities of Turkey's Aegean coast were once some of the most powerful in the ancient world. The holiday destinations of Datca, Bodrum center, Yalikavak, Turgutreis, Altinkum, Kusadasi, and others may be found along Turkey's Aegean coast. Beaches like Pamuk are popular, and there are many things to do there, but it is best known for being home to the ancient city ruins of Ephesus and the Virgin Mary's dwelling.
