The Wales Coast Path's Cardiff segment is 8 nm long and connects Newport to the east and the Vale of Glamorgan (via Penarth) to the west. The path from Newport in the east continues along the seawall, with spectacular views across the Severn Estuary and excellent bird-watching possibilities, thanks to saltmarsh and mudflats that attract wading species.
